Currently enjoying a flourishing portfolio career, Liz is a publisher by profession. She came to business coaching and professional development as an extension of her natural preferences for encouraging and challenging people to achieve their goals and change for the better, playing to their strengths rather than focusing on (perceived) weaknesses. Without realising it, as a publisher she had been coaching authors for years! She is herself a Graduate of the Meyler Campbell Business Coach Programme and an active member of The Alliance coaching partnership.
Reflecting her appetite for ongoing change and growth, in over 15 years as an in-house publisher, Liz commissioned authors and grew publishing portfolios in statistics, geography, history, academic journals and reference books. Joining global education company Pearson in 2005 was however a critical turning point, bringing together her love of working in a creative industry and her need for a direct engagement with the commercial grittiness of business; in business publishing, she had found her niche. As Publisher of the Financial Times business book list at Pearson and in her most recent in-house role as Editor-at-Large for independent business publisher Kogan Page, Liz published over 250 business books. One of these was Anne Scoular’s Financial Times Guide to Business Coaching, which Liz says has been instrumental in transforming her life in many ways!
Working with some of the world’s leading business thinkers as their editor and publishing partner has given Liz a uniquely broad yet independent perspective on management, strategy, leadership, entrepreneurship and the latest business trends. A magpie for interesting, relevant and applicable information, she has built up a wealth of valuable knowledge which she is always eager to share with her clients and contacts.
Liz now balances several stimulating roles which crystallise around her core interests in people, business and ongoing learning and development. As a partner of The Alliance, Meyler Campbell Tutor and Faculty member, and publishing consultant to selected business authors, her aim is always to give people the space to grow and to help them change for the better. She takes a positive, supportive and energetic approach, warmly seasoned with appropriate challenge and humour. Her clients are dynamic, ambitious, open-minded people looking to make real steps forward and lasting changes in their organisations, work and lives and Liz relishes working with them to make positive transformations and meaningful progress towards their goals, whether in business, coaching or writing.
Liz lives in Cambridge, where she was a student more years ago than she cares to remember, graduating with a first class degree in geography. She completed her PhD on the subject of gender and migration at University College London and outside work is an adventurous traveller, a keen writer and enjoys dabbling in photography, bringing together these pursuits on her travel blog. She has set herself the challenge of visiting 100 countries by the time she is 50 and has so far been to more than 65 countries across 6 continents. She is also keen on Zumba and boxercise, at least partly to counteract her enthusiasm for fine food and wine! You can find out more about Liz on her website and follow her on Twitter at @lizgooster.
